Mississippi Man Arrested for Fatal Shooting of Texas Police Officer
A Mississippi man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a Texas police officer.
According to CBS News, Officer Jacob Candanoza, 28, of the Terrell Police Department, was conducting a traffic stop on Sunday, December 8, around 11:00 p.m. near the intersection of Interstate 20 and Highway 34. During the stop, Candanoza was shot and later transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following an extensive manhunt, authorities apprehended 25-year-old Darrian Cortez Johnson on Monday, December 9. Johnson was taken into custody at the Mill Creek Ranch Resort, located about 30 miles east of Terrell, after an hours-long search.
Johnson has been charged with capital murder of a peace officer or fireman.
