Discover New Mexico and Arizona’s Bigger Mountains Than Texas

If you’re up for a hiking challenge, try conquering the tallest mountain in Texas—Guadalupe Peak. Standing at 8,751 feet above sea level, it is the highest point in the state. Hikers typically take about 6 to 8 hours to summit this impressive peak.

However, while Guadalupe Peak may be tall, it’s not the highest mountain you’ll encounter if you travel to neighboring states. In fact, there are many mountains in the region that dwarf Guadalupe Peak. Some of these mountains are classified as “major summits,” meaning they rise higher than 9,843 feet (3,000 meters). Guadalupe Peak falls short of this “major summit” status.

If you’re seeking a real challenge, head to Arizona, where you’ll find at least five mountains that qualify as major summits. Ready for an even bigger test? These mountains are perfect for serious hikers looking to push their limits.
