Not All Leaders Are on Board

New Mexico’s ongoing health care provider shortage remains a significant challenge for the state. Recently, RGF’s president sat down with Fred Nathan from Think New Mexico to discuss the issue in-depth. RGF has also put forward its own set of recommendations to address the shortage, which can be reviewed here.

While there are various steps that could be taken to remedy the situation, progress has been slow. Unfortunately, some political leaders in New Mexico remain resistant to meaningful action. A letter to the editor by the head of the New Mexico Medical Association reflects the tension and reluctance to move forward on this issue.

Such challenges are often rooted in a mix of political and ideological divisions. In particular, certain “progressive” factions in New Mexico’s Legislature and other elected bodies seem to prioritize political conflicts over practical solutions. RGF remains committed to addressing the health care provider shortage this legislative session and hopes that other leaders will be more willing to collaborate and find common ground for the good of New Mexicans.
