A fatal accident occurred just after 2 p.m. on Tuesday in Sumner County, resulting in the death of one person. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 73-year-old Edward Fitzpatrick of Neosho Falls was driving a 2007 Chevy Silverado northbound on U.S. 81, about half a mile east of North Seneca Road.
The pickup veered left of center, causing it to enter the north ditch. Fitzpatrick overcorrected the vehicle, which then struck a barrier before continuing along the ditch and ultimately overturning into the Ninnescha River.
Emergency medical services (EMS) transported Fitzpatrick to Wesley Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The KHP confirmed that Fitzpatrick was properly wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
