States Affected by Salmonella Outbreak and Recall Details

According to Newsweek , A wide-reaching cucumber recall is underway across 36 U.S. states due to potential salmonella contamination. The affected cucumbers, produced by SunFed, Crazy Fresh, and PAM PAK brands, have been linked to an outbreak of salmonellosis, a foodborne illness that causes symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps.

The recall concerns cucumbers grown by Agrotato, S.A. de C.V. in Sonora, Mexico, and has prompted investigations by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As of November 26, the CDC reported 68 cases of illness in 19 states, with 18 hospitalizations but no reported fatalities.

SunFed Recall

SunFed Produce LLP is recalling all sizes of whole fresh American cucumbers distributed from October 12 to November 26. The cucumbers were sold across 26 states, including Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Texas, and Wisconsin. The products are packaged in bulk containers labeled with the “SunFed” brand or in plain white boxes with a sticker listing Agrotato as the grower. Consumers are urged to dispose of or return the recalled products to stores for a full refund. The recall was initiated after the FDA linked the cucumbers to salmonellosis cases reported between October 12 and November 15.

Craig Slate, President of SunFed, emphasized their commitment to food safety, stating, “As soon as we learned of this issue, we immediately acted to protect consumers. We are working closely with authorities and the implicated ranch to determine the possible cause.”

PAM PAK Recall

Baloian Farms of Arizona is recalling its whole fresh cucumbers under the PAM PAK brand due to the same salmonella contamination concern. These cucumbers were sold across multiple states, including California, Arizona, Texas, and Wisconsin. They are identifiable by labels such as “Pamela” or “Agrotato, S.A. de C.V.” The affected cucumbers may also be found in clear PAM PAK branded bags containing six cucumbers. Consumers are advised to discard or return the products to stores. In Oregon and Nevada, PAM PAK is the only brand affected by the recall.

Crazy Fresh Recall

Russ Davis Wholesale of Wadena, Minnesota is recalling certain Crazy Fresh products after cucumbers from Baloian Farms were found to be contaminated with salmonella. The affected cucumbers were distributed to multiple states, including Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota. In Illinois and Minnesota, Crazy Fresh is the only brand involved in the recall. Consumers who have purchased these products are advised to dispose of them or return them for a refund.

The FDA recommends that consumers who have purchased the recalled cucumbers destroy them and disinfect any surfaces that may have come into contact with the contaminated products.
