A man has been detained in connection with a tennis shoe-related shooting in Jackson.
According to a news release from the Jackson Police Department, officers have identified Curtis Leon Sawyer, 23, as the suspect in a homicide that occurred earlier this week. On Tuesday, November 26th, personnel learned about Sawyer’s whereabouts.
The police department conducted a surveillance operation. Sawyer drove away in a black Nissan Altima during the surveillance operation.
Local, federal, and state law enforcement agencies worked together to initiate a traffic stop, which resulted in a brief pursuit.
The pursuit ended with Sawyer’s arrest in Brandon, Mississippi.
Sawyer underwent a medical examination at the University of Mississippi Medical Center as a precaution after his arrest.
For killing a 44-year-old man after stealing his tennis shoes, Sawyer faced capital murder charges. He did not receive any bond.
