A man who admitted to helping cover up a 2022 murder will serve the maximum sentence permitted under his plea agreement. Alejandro Barton pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and conspiracy charges related to the case.
According to court documents, Barton, along with Isaac Martinez and Armando Martinez, was involved in a confrontation with Jonathan Garza near Central Avenue and 1st Street in February 2022. During the altercation, investigators say Isaac Martinez fatally shot Garza.
Judge Brett Loveless sentenced Barton to 6.5 years in prison. Armando Martinez, who also admitted to assisting in covering up Garza’s murder, received a sentence of 18 months of supervised probation. Isaac Martinez is set to face trial in December.
