The U.S. Department of Justice and FBI are partnering with Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Andriy Kostin, and his team to investigate Russia’s alleged war crimes in Ukraine. This collaboration targets offenses such as the illegal deportation of children, atrocities against civilians, and crimes against humanity.

U.S. Support for Ukrainian War Crimes Investigation

According to VOA NEWS, the U.S. Department of Justice and FBI are partnering with Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, Andriy Kostin, and his team to investigate alleged Russian war crimes during the Ukraine invasion. This joint effort targets various serious offenses, including illegal child deportations, civilian atrocities, crimes against humanity, environmental crimes, cyberattacks, and illicit trafficking of cultural heritage as war crimes.

In an interview with VOA’s Ukrainian Service, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine stated that the significance of this partnership cannot be overstated, as it represents a concerted effort to seek justice for the victims of these heinous acts and to hold the perpetrators accountable.

The scope of the alleged war crimes in Ukraine is vast, and the evidence to be collected and analyzed is substantial. The collaboration between U.S. authorities and Prosecutor General of Ukraaine underscores the international community’s commitment to upholding human rights and ensuring that those responsible for war crimes face legal consequences.

During the Interview, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Addressed the Challenges and Advocacy for Repatriation of Ukrainian Children 

Ukrainian children unlawfully deported to Russia face a harrowing situation in the conflict. Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Andriy Kostin, is resolutely working to secure their safe return, despite the lack of an international repatriation mechanism. The Prosecutor General of Ukraine believes this mission sets a precedent for global issues, calling for increased international pressure on Russia to cooperate.

The situation gained international attention with an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin issued by the International Criminal Court. The Kremlin denies responsibility for war crimes, underlining the need for international cooperation.
