Hiking With Your Pooch? Here Are 7 Pet-Friendly Trails in Cincinnati, Ohio

Cincinnati is a top-tier pet-friendly city.

Leash up, grab some treats, and hit the trails.

From rolling hills and river views to well-maintained parks, the city’s a playground for people and their pups. Whether you prefer a paved stroll, a rugged hike, or an off-leash area for your dog to run free, be at ease.

Here are the best spots to hike with your pooch in Cincinnati this season.

Mount Airy Forest Loop

Mount Airy Forest spans nearly 1,500 acres, shaded by towering trees, perfect for escaping the summer heat. It’s a solid mix of easy-going and moderate hiking.

Keep your pup on a leash, but let them enjoy the fresh air and earthy scents of this cityside oasis. If you feel tired, check out the seating area near Mount Airy Arboretum.

Glenwood Gardens Loop Trail

In the mood for a slow, scenic stroll? Glenwood Gardens delivers.

The 1.6-mile Wetland Loop nature trail is ideal for dogs. When strolling through prairies and wetlands, there’s enough space to let your pooch off leash and a chance to spot butterflies and hummingbirds.

Waste bags at the trailhead make cleanup easy.

French Park Trail

French Park brings wooded paths, open meadows, and enough hills for a quick run. This 2.2-mile loop is a slightly tougher hike, but the reward? A quieter, more peaceful vibe away from the city buzz. Pack water for your dog as the summer sun can hit hard.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park Trails

Plan a whole day for this excursion. It’s a 3-hour drive from Cincinnati but the most pet-friendly space you can find. Leashed dogs are welcome on most trails at the park including the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.

You can explore all kinds of terrain—pass through the woods and the wetlands, or take the trail along the Cuyahoga River stream with your pooch. Just keep em on a leash no longer than six feet. If you’re up for a challenge, try the Perkins Trail.

Sharon Woods Gorge Trail

Bridges, boardwalks, waterfalls—this 2.6-mile loop is more than your average walk as it follows a scenic creek through dense forests.

There’s plenty of cool shade and nature to admire. Keep your dog leashed, but let them soak in the sights and sounds of the great outdoors.

Withrow Nature Preserve Loop

This 270-acre park features a 1.7-mile loop that offers glimpses of the Ohio River and a mix of meadows and forested trails. It’s a great spot for a relaxed, easygoing walk—ideal for training sessions or just a mindful stroll with your pup.

Bonus: Woodland Mound is nearby, with even more pet-friendly trails to explore.

Ault Park Loop

If your dog appreciates the finer things in life (or just loves sniffing flowers), Ault Park is the move. It’s Cincinnati’s fourth-largest park, featuring a stunning Italian Renaissance pavilion and plenty of open grass for a quick zoomie session.
