A 29-year-old Man From San Antonio Has Been Identified As The Missing Hiker Found Dead On A California Mountain

A hiker from San Antonio who had gone missing while attempting to climb Mt. Whitney in California has been tragically found dead.

Taylor Rodriguez, 29, had initially been reported missing to the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office on January 2nd. However, upon further investigation, it was revealed that Rodriguez had actually started his climb up the 14,505-foot mountain on December 30th.

The exact moment of Rodriguez’s disappearance remains a mystery. Inyo County Search & Rescue, in collaboration with the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office, initiated a search operation to locate Rodriguez.

Both organizations reached out to climbers through social media, asking for help from those who were on the Whitney Trail or Mountaineer’s Route between December 30, 2024, and January 2, 2025.

On January 4, the sheriff’s office made an announcement about the discovery of Rodriguez’s body. His remains were located in a remote area at an impressive elevation of 12,000 feet, specifically near the North Fork of Lone Pine Creek Trail.

Inyo County Search & Rescue expressed their heartfelt condolences to Taylor’s family and friends through a Facebook post, acknowledging the challenging period they are going through.

According to officials at the sheriff’s office, Rodriguez departed from San Antonio on December 28th with the intention of heading to Lone Pine. However, he made a last-minute decision to alter his plans and try to reach the summit of Mt. Whitney.

The cause of death for Rodriguez remains unknown at this time. The Inyo County Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
