On his 18th birthday, Jacob Meisner, who is currently facing multiple charges, including murder, in the beating death of Preston Lord, was transferred from juvenile detention to MCSO custody.
When Lord, a 16-year-old, was leaving a Halloween party in the town of Queen Creek in October 2023, he was reportedly attacked. The individuals charged with murder in this case include Talan Renner, Talyn Vigil, Taylor Sherman, Treston Billey, Dominic Turner, and Willliam Owen Hines.
In March 2024, Meisner, along with six other suspects, was arrested. It is important to note that Meisner was already in custody for two other cases involving teen violence.
The teen was expected to remain in custody at least until his 18th birthday as both cases progressed through the juvenile justice system.
In late 2020, Meisner saw a significant reduction in his bond alongside four other suspects. Initially set at $1 million, his bond was ultimately lowered to $350,000. Despite the reduction, Meisner remains in custody.
The case has a scheduled court date for oral arguments on January 13, marking the first hearing with the new Judge, Sam Myers. The previous judge, Bruce Cohen, retired, leading to the transition of the case to Judge Myers.
Renner’s lawyers have filed a motion requesting that their client be permitted to appear virtually or have his presence excused. The motion cites security concerns for both Mr. Renner and his family. However, county prosecutors have urged the Judge to reject this request.
The ruling on the motion has not been made yet.
All seven individuals accused in the case have entered pleas of not guilty.
