Arizona's contracting board's 'most wanted' list includes fraudulent contractor

Steve Duggins, along with twenty-four other homeowners in the Valley, claims to have been scammed by a fraudulent contractor, Steve Venegas, who is also an ex-convict.

In a previous report on “On Your Side,” Duggins revealed the disappointing outcome of his project with Venegas. Instead of delivering a fully completed outdoor space, Duggins was left with a vast untidy backyard, an unfinished outdoor kitchen, and an incomplete firepit. Shockingly, all of this was after Duggins had already paid Venegas a staggering $48,000 for the project.

Venegas vanished with all of the money, leaving behind a trail of deceived individuals. On Your Side brought attention to Venegas and his deceitful actions, which encouraged additional victims to come forward and share their experiences.

A homeowner was left shocked and defrauded of $2,800 by a phony contractor.

According to Duggins, “He has a knack for making money in a rather unethical manner,” as reported by On Your Side.

The Arizona Registrar of Contractors has received 22 complaints from homeowners, who claim that Venegas has taken $408,750 for himself.

The Registrar of Contractors has recently included Venegas on their most wanted list, as investigators are deeply concerned about his activities and want to alert potential victims.

Meanwhile, the county attorney’s office is currently reviewing the matter to assess whether any criminal charges will be filed against Venegas. On Your Side has learned about this development.

When On Your Side went to Venegas’ home, there was no answer. However, shortly after, his wife called me back and asked that On Your Side stop “harassing” them.

During the conversation, Harper inquired, “Do you anticipate ever recovering your funds?” Duggins responded with a sense of resignation, “No, I don’t believe so. I mean, there’s really nothing else I can do at this point.”
