Authorities reported that on Wednesday morning, two conductors of the Staten Island Railway were attacked at the St. George Terminal.
The event took place at around 7:20 a.m. when a patron looked to be experiencing difficulties using a MetroCard vending machine at the terminal, which acts as a transit center for the Staten Island Ferry as well as the Staten Island Railway, according to MTA authorities. Before the client hit one conductor and pushed past the other before running away, two female conductors approached to assist, according to officials.
Authorities added that after the two ladies were brought to Staten Island University Hospital, they were eventually released and given leave. According to officials, one received minor facial injuries, and the other had minor back injuries.
MTA Police spokesman Meghan Keegan told Gothamist, “The MTA takes assaults on employees very seriously, and it’s unconscionable that anyone would assault a transit worker who is trying to serve the public.” “The MTA Police are looking into it, and they’re just starting to find and apprehend the culprit.”
According to MTA spokesman Lucas Bejarano, the attack did not involve the use of weapons.
Police from the MTA are looking into the event.
