Body of Missing Maryland Woman Found in Popular Hiking Trail, Shifting Investigation To Homicide

The body of a missing Maryland woman that was found in a popular hiking trail was believed by authorities to be Rachel Morin. Correspondingly, authorities stated that the investigation shifted from a missing person case to a homicide.

On August 5, at around 11:30 p.m., the boyfriend of Rachel Morin, 37, reported to authorities that the missing Maryland woman did not return as expected. The unnamed boyfriend further stated that the missing Maryland woman headed out and went for a walk on the Ma and Pa Trail at around 6 p.m.

In addition, according to Wehner, the boyfriend also stated that the missing Maryland woman’s vehicle was at the Ma and Pa trailhead in Bel Air, but the missing Maryland woman was not. Upon searching the area, the authorities indeed located the missing Maryland woman’s vehicle at the entrance to the trail at Williams Street.

Body of Missing Maryland Woman Found

According to Reyes, on August 6, at around 1:07 p.m., a citizen called 911 to report about the body of the missing Maryland woman they found off the trail. During a press conference on the evening of that day, Sheriff Jeff Gahler of Harford County announced that after the discovery, the investigation shifted from a missing person case to a homicide. Nonetheless, Gahler stated that while he believes the body recovered belongs to the missing Maryland woman, the medical examiner is yet to confirm the identity and the cause of death.
