The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office announced the indictment of the ex-convict in connection with stabbing a woman 15 times who he attacked from the back while the victim walking on a desert trail in northeast Phoenix last month, authorities say.
Ex-Convict Was Indicted For 1st-Degree Murder
On Monday, Zion William Teasley 22-year-old ex-convict was accused of murdering Lauren Heike. Teasley was indicted on a first-degree murder charge in the death of Lauren Heike.
Heike was stabbed 15 times in the back while walking on a desert trail.
Moreover, prosecutors are still reviewing his case if Teasley will be facing the death penalty according to Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. Furthermore, it is still unknown if the ex-convict has a defense attorney who can speak on his behalf.
AP News reported that the victim was identified as Lauren Heike 29 years old. Heike’s body was found with clothes torn apart and had several defensive injuries indicating that the victim was chased over or through a nearby barbed wire fence on a hiking trail near Libby Street almost a half-mile from her home, but it’s believed she was killed the day before her remains were found on April 29, the Phoenix Police Department said.

The Homicide Investigation Of The Incident
Homicide investigators claimed that the incident of the attack was just random without provocation after Teasley allegedly stalked her on the desert trail in northeast Phoenix. However, the probable motive for the murder remains unknown.
The ex-convict has arrested again for allegedly killing Heike almost a week later on May 4. Phoenix police said they used DNA evidence which they gathered at the crime scene plus a surveillance camera which shows that Teasley had a connection to the case.
Arizona Department of Corrections records show Teasley served 16 months in a state prison in Eloy for armed robbery and other felonies and was released in November 2020.
Lastly, Teasley is scheduled for his arraignment Tuesday morning.
