An off-duty Chicago police officer was shot to death multiple times outside her home over the weekend.
Chicago Police Officer Killed After Her Shift Ends On Weekend
The young Chicago police officer was identified as 24-year-old Areanah Preston by the Medical Examiner’s Office and just recently earned her master’s degree.
However, in an unfortunate incident, Preston was fatally shot dead shortly after leaving the station around 1:42 a.m. in the 8100 block of South Blackstone Avenue in the Avalon Park neighborhood, according to the Chicago police.
On May 6, an armed standoff occurred outside’s Preston house after finishing her shift when she arrived at her home and got out of her car, some individuals wanted to take things from her. But Preston had an exchange of fire with the suspects, at first she was able to get off a couple of rounds and fought the offenders. However, she died from that incident.
CBS News reported that Interim CPD Superintendent Eric Carter confirmed in the news conference that Preston was an officer for three years just completed her shift in the 5th District on the Far South Side and was heading home at the time of the shooting.
Several officers responded to the incident, placed her into the back of a squad car, and took her to the University of Chicago Medical Center. Still, after several desperate and ultimately unsuccessful attempts to save her life, police said that she died from multiple gunshot wounds above the breast.
The Suspects Are Already Arrested
The four suspects including two 16-year-olds were arrested in connection with the death of an off-duty police officer in Chicago who was fatally shot on Saturday.
According to CBS News, and WLS-TV which cite police, Preston, 24, was shot multiple times during an armed robbery outside her home after completing her shift.
WFLD-TV reported that Preston was a three-year veteran of CPD who would have graduated from Loyola University’s School of Law with her Master of Jurisprudence on May 13.
ABC7 news reported, a procession transported the fallen Chicago Police Officer Areanah Preston’s remains to the funeral home Tuesday morning and multiple people have been arrested in connection with the shooting.
Officer Preston worked out of the Fifth District. A vigil was held there Tuesday night to honor her.
