Singapore CEO’s Claims of Emotional Distress and Reputation Damage Rejected by State Court

A CEO in Singapore, K. Kawshigan, is facing two lawsuits brought against him by a woman named Nora Tan. The first lawsuit, which sought $22,000 in damages, was dismissed by the state court on January 28. The second lawsuit, which seeks around $2.3 million, is still set for a pre-trial hearing on February 9.

Kawshigan, who is the CEO of D1 Racing and business development manager of AeroLion Technologies, claims that Nora Tan caused him emotional distress and damage to his reputation. He alleges that Tan brought him “trauma, depression, and impacts” and breached an agreement to improve their relationship. However, the state court dismissed these claims as “manifestly groundless” and “without foundation.”

Based on a report by Fox News on February 1, 2023, the two met in 2016 and became friends, but in 2020, their relationship became strained after Tan expressed discomfort with Kawshigan’s advances and tried to limit their interactions. Tan initiated harassment proceedings against Kawshigan, but he threatened legal action and sued her in July 2022, claiming he suffered loss of earning capacity and business partnerships. Tan took action and obtained a quick restraining order against Kawshigan.

The court deemed Kawshigan’s actions an attempt to compel compliance from Tan and ordered him to pay her $14,000 in damages. The court’s judgment stated that Kawshigan’s tendency to resort to legal threats showed a lack of evidence to support his claims.
