According to Delaware General Assembly (2022) website, House Bill 360 constituted the 2022 Delaware Relief Rebate Program. This law established a “relief rebate,” which is a direct payment of $300 made to each adult Delaware resident once. The purpose of this assistance is to advance the welfare of all Delawareans who are recovering from the COVID pandemic and dealing with increasing groceries and petrol prices.
The Delaware Department of Finance started giving out $300 lump sum payments in May 2022 to people who had already submitted their 2020 Delaware resident personal income tax returns by the deadline. Over 780,000 payouts were issued to adult residents who timely submitted their 2021 tax returns throughout the summer and early fall, as well as to those people who were at least 18 years old and identified through data from other State agencies according to an article published by Delaware’s Department of Finance (2022).
Delaware residents who were over 18 and residing in the state as of December 31, 2021 and who had not previously earned a 2022 Relief Rebate were eligible to apply online beginning November 1, 2022 and continuing through December 15, 2022. Review of applications is currently ongoing.
An active driver’s license or active identification card issued by the Delaware Department of Motor Vehicles on or before December 31, 2021, as well as meeting other verification requirements, are required of qualified applicants. They must also have a valid Social Security Number, a residential mailing address in Delaware, and meet other verification requirements.
After the application period has ended and all applications have been examined, no qualifying applicant will be given a Relief Rebate. An application’s completion does not ensure that a Relief Rebate will be paid.
