It has been months since Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard issued a trade request to play for the Miami Heat and as the training camp is set to commence in a few weeks, news circulated about Lillard reaffirming that he won’t attend the training unless traded to the heat.

Lillard Firms On His Trade Request

Even before the offseason started, Lillard publicly announced that he wanted to move to the Heat through a trade request. But months after his trade request, Lillard remained a member of the Blazers. Lillard has been playing for Portland for eleven seasons and perhaps wanted something significant to explore outside even though he still has a four-year contract with the organization and $216 million left on his deal. So, the question raised was, “Why would Lillard not join the training due to his trade request, give up the money, and miss out on playing meaningful basketball?”

Lillard’s Trade Request Is Not Ideal

According to Shams Charania, there are only two training camps that Lillard would report to, and they are Portland and Miami. It will be improbable to have him attend the training if he is traded to Toronto. Charania added the trade request is still available for anyone else who wants to let Lillard into their organization. However, he stated that taking him into their program as someone who wanted to get traded immediately while having a remaining million dollars in his deal is extremely not advisable.
