The National Aeronautics and Space Administration was founded on October 1, 1958! On this day, the space agency started operations formally.
In response to the Soviet Union’s launch of Sputnik, President Eisenhower had two months earlier signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act into law.
Today, July 29, 1958, marks the 50th anniversary of the National Aeronautics and Space Act (Pub.L. 85-568), the United States federal law that established the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
