Diplomatic Efforts in Turkey to Address Regional Tensions and Gaza Reconstruction

Turkey and other states discussed methods to persuade Iran and its proxies to reduce tensions, provide humanitarian supplies to Gaza, and rebuild and manage the war-torn area.

The visit took place amid rising regional tensions, including Hezbollah missile assaults on northern Israel and Houthi Red Sea trade delays. The latter threatened world commerce, spurring U.S. and allied attempts to protect the waterway.

Blinken sought Gaza rebuilding and security assistance in Turkey. He stressed preventing the conflict’s expansion and the U.S.’s commitment to Israel’s security and a Palestinian state.
