Zhanyuan Yang crashed his vehicle into the Chinese consulate in California and allegedly slashed at a police officer with a knife before he was shot to death. Further reports say apart from the recovered weapon, officers also discovered a loaded crossbow with arrows in the backseat of the Chinese national’s vehicle.
On October 9, at around 3 p.m., Zhanyuan Yang, 31, a Chinese national, crashed his Honda sedan into the lobby of the office of the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco, California. Body camera video revealed that two security guards inside the building initially restrained the Chinese national until police officers from the San Francisco Police Department arrived minutes later.However, an article in AsiaOne states that on October 19, a newly disclosed video of the incident showed that the Chinese national also appeared to have slashed at a police officer with a knife before the former was shot to his death. In addition, apart from the knife that was recovered from the crime scene, police officers also discovered a loaded crossbow with arrows, which somewhat resembled a rifle, in the backseat of the Chinese national’s vehicle.

Chinese National Shot Dead
According to an article in Reuters, in the videos disclosed, a sergeant was seen drawing his weapon and shooting the Chinese national at close range. Thereafter, the suspect was pronounced dead at a hospital he was transported to.
Further reports say no other individuals have been injured. However, some of the police officers in the lobby were reportedly heard coughing after inhaling fumes of pepper spray that was released upon their arrival.
