MN Property Tax Rebate Program: Up to $1,300 in Relief for Residents

Minnesota residents are in line for MN property tax rebates of up to $1,300, thanks to a $2 million allocation from the state’s budget surplus. According to The Washington Examiner, the Minnesota Department of Revenue began distributing this one-time tax rebate in August, following legislative approval and Governor Tim Walz’s signature. The initiative aims to provide tax relief based on 2021 income tax returns, with automatic distribution via check or direct deposit set to wrap up by the end of September.

This MN property tax rebate will help residents cover everyday expenses such as groceries, rent, and childcare, according to Revenue Commissioner Paul Marquart. All eligible recipients should receive their payments by the end of the month, providing much-needed financial support.

MN Property Tax Rebate Eligibility and Distribution Details

To qualify for the MN property tax rebate, individuals must meet certain income requirements: $75,000 or less for single filers and $150,000 or less for married couples filing jointly. Single filers will receive $260, while married couples will get $520, with an extra $260 for each of up to three dependents, potentially totaling $1,300 for couples with the maximum number of dependents.

The state has partnered with U.S. Bank to handle the distribution, and checks will be labeled as “State of Minnesota 2021 Tax Rebate Program.” Notably, there’s no application process for this MN property tax rebate; it operates independently of the usual tax refund system. Taxpayers who haven’t received their payment by October are encouraged to contact the Minnesota Department of Revenue’s customer service line for assistance during this property tax refund season.
