U.S. Invests Billions To Revamp Cold War Submarine Program, Counter China’s Naval Reinforcement

The U.S. Navy invested billions of dollars to revamp its Cold War submarine program and counter China’s reinforcement of its own Navy. Reports say the program was first established in the 1950s to counter the Russian Navy in the Cold War.

The United States Navy invested billions of dollars to revamp its Cold War submarine program in the Pacific Ocean and counter China as it reinforced its People’s Liberation Army Navy. Reports say the modernization came after China had grown more aggressive toward Taiwan by planning to reclaim the island by force.

According to Hagstrom, the modernization of the Cold War submarine program intends to cover a larger area despite making the surveillance cables smaller. In addition, the Cold War submarine program is also expected to possess artificial intelligence that is able to evaluate surveillance data for any anomaly and unknown crafts.

Furthermore, the refurbishing of the Cold War submarine program will also include fleets of unmanned drones that will patrol areas in the Pacific Ocean for any sign of submarines. Lastly, ships of the U.S. Navy will also carry portable sensors that can be deployed as undersea satellites whenever needed.

History of Cold War Submarine Program

According to Brock, the Cold War submarine program was first established in the 1950s as a top-secret strategy against the Russian Navy during the Cold War. To date, however, the Cold War submarine program is being modernized into surveillance ships and undersea sensor cables, with only three individuals having direct knowledge of the plan.
