On September 7, Hurricane Lee, which was previously a Category 1 storm, is forecasted to strengthen into Category 5 as it more than doubled its wind speeds to 165 miles per hour in just 24 hours. Nonetheless, reports say to date, Hurricane Lee is still a Category 2 storm with maximum sustained winds of 105 miles per hour.

On September 10, however, an article on CNN stated that the National Hurricane Center announced the gradual weakening of Hurricane Lee due to an eyewall replacement cycle and vertical wind shears that occur with most of the major hurricanes that last.

Hurricane Lee’s Direction

According to an article in Reuters, the intensity of Hurricane Lee is reportedly fluctuating over the open waters of the Atlantic. Nonetheless, the impacts of Hurricane Lee may soon be witnessed along the East Coast of the U.S.

Furthermore, the Hurricane Lee is also forecasted to move toward the north of Puerto Rico, the British and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the north of Leeward Islands, and other islands in the Caribbean. Although it is still too early to determine the impacts it could leave in the northeast of the U.S., the Bermuda, and the Atlantic Canada, the East Coast is still expected to experience large swells in the ocean and increasing rip currents.
