An earlier discussion in 2017 of having not enough prison cells to accommodate inmates has been finally acted upon as a new Dubois County jail is currently under development and soon to be open.

New Dubois County Jail’s Construction

It has come to the sight of 14 News that a new Dubois County jail is being constructed at the moment. Although they wanted to take a tour of the new Dubois County and have a look inside, they were told by public information officer Hannah Merter that entering the new Dubois County jail is not yet safe due to construction work that is being wrapped up.

The new Dubois County jail houses the sheriff’s office and jails and the new Dubois County jail is built up directly behind the old building. The innovation doesn’t end there, as the old building will also undergo a renovation and turn into county offices.

New Dubois County Jail’s Plan

Wayback 2017, a state jail inspector saw the need to add more space in the county as prisoners were over-cramped in the old jails. This approach incited county officials to look into the matter and finally took a course of action to make the new Dubois County jail.

A county official said despite the formation of the new Dubois County jail, the public can still contact them at the same phone number and they are still located at the same address. The new Dubois County jail is set to be finished in March 2024.
