With Gaston County’s rent prices reportedly increasing each year, according to Gaston Gazette, Crisis Assistance Ministry (CAM) executive director Kim Wheeler wanted to weigh in regarding rent assistance options.

Crisis Assistance Ministry (CAM) and Other Gaston County Organization

The Crisis Assistance Ministry is a Gastonia-based organization dedicated to assisting the general people of Gastonia with a food pantry, utility assistance, and access to other resources as necessary.

According to Wheeler, Crisis Assistance Ministry also offers rent assistance but there are also other Gastonia organizations aside from Crisis Assistance Ministry that are extending the same aid to its people. Wheeler mentioned one of these Gastonia organizations, the Salvation Army.

Salvation Army is a church and a Gastonia organization that provides rent assistance to its clients, although the amount is only capped at $150.

Executive director of Dallas High Shoals Christian Ministry, a Gastonia organization that helps the poor and needy with food, clothing, medical, rent, and utilities has also expressed his concerns about rent assistance options.

According to Wheeler, the need and lack of funds for rent assistance can be mainly traced back to COVID-19, during those times, people were very generous and some Gastonia organizations can give as much as $1,000 for a month’s rent.

But in a span of time, unlike between 2020 and 2021, donations and government funding are not coming enough prompting the funds to decrease and eventually rent prices to increase.

Crisis Assistance Ministry (CAM) Program

Wheeler has called out Gastonia people who are in need to seek help. It’s unfortunate that some Gastonia organizations are only available to their particular city, however, Wheeler said that Crisis Assistance Ministry has connections to most of these organizations.

This means Crisis Assistance Ministry can give them a hand in finding the right county or city applicable to their needs. Anyone who is in need of assistance, trying to volunteer, or wanting to donate can communicate with Crisis Assistance Ministry through crisisassistancegastonia.org.
