U.S. President Joe Biden’s green energy projects include wind turbines, solar cells, electric vehicles, and obtaining zero net CO2 emissions by the year 2050. However, Biden’s push for green energy projects allegedly risks turning the country energy dependent on China which is becoming the new Saudi Arabia of ‘Green Energy’.

According to Weingarten, like the oil embargo against Saudi Arabia in the 1970s, China also has a near monopoly on rare earth metals. This suggests that Biden’s green energy projects that claim that renewable energy sources are “substantially cheaper” than fossil-fuel sources will become trivial. In addition, Biden’s spending on green energy projects could be an advantage for China and its enterprises.

According to Rossomando, like the Saudi Arabia, China could become an adversary of the U.S. as the East Asian country imposed restrictions on gallium and germanium imports in July. Reports say gallium and germanium are two rare earth metals that are used in the industry of semiconductors. China produces 83% of the world’s germanium and 94% of the world’s gallium. Furthermore, China is the world’s major producer of 30 of the 50 rare earth metals that are used in civilian and military markets.
