Canton, Ohio authorities have finally taken a wise move to fight crimes in its town by installing new surveillance trailers. Now, they see what their people are seeing.
New Surveillance Trailers Launch
Canton Police Chief John Gabbard expressed his eagerness about the deployment of the new surveillance trailers seeing to it that the people will feel secure and will no longer fear that a crime will spark in most neighborhoods.
Even a resident speaks up about accepting the new surveillance trailers placed around her house adding the crimes involving her neighborhood such as shootings among others would help scare away those criminals.
New Surveillance Trailers Features
The New Surveillance Trailers were bought for nearly $82,000 covered by a criminal justice grant under a program called “Neighborhood Safety Trailer Cameras”.
News 5 Cleveland‘s report says that the new surveillance trailers are composed of two cameras each with a noticeable “Canton Police Safety Camera” mark and a license plate reader.
As per an analyst, the new surveillance trailer’s reader will help them locate a suspect’s vehicle by reviewing, and downloading it and eventually sending them to investigators for leads.
The new surveillance trailers were initially seen at the Pro Football Hall of Fame last week and this week at 3rd Street NW and Smith Avenue SW.
Ensuring people will not be confused about its appearance around houses, police are putting up blue flyers on front doors explaining that the target locations of the new surveillance trailers are those areas with several crimes reported.
New Surveillance Trailers Posed “Privacy Concerns”
Despite approval from the city’s jurisdiction, the ACLU of Ohio stated that the new surveillance trailers might be breaching privacy law especially since it still no nationwide implementation measures on how the new surveillance trailers will be used. How the data will be kept, and for what purpose or who will have access to it?
However, Gabbard cleared out that all the records will be mere videos and no audio will be captured. It was said that the new surveillance trailers will only be pointed to public areas and not into somebody’s house or private areas. He said that he is open to any input from the community as the new surveillance trailers are just so new. He also added that the new surveillance trailers’ efficiency to deter crimes will be dependent on how the trailers be endorsed.
