Wildfires in Hawaii Left Thousands Missing, At Least 55 Dead As Death Toll Still Continues To Rise

Latest news updates on the wildfires in Hawaii reported 1,000 individuals missing and at least 55 dead. Further reports say at least 14,000 have already evacuated the island of Maui as the three main fires have not been extinguished yet.

Governor Josh Green announced that since August 8, at least 55 individuals have died due to the wildfires in Hawaii and the death toll will likely exceed the record of 61 deaths after a tsunami in 1960. Further reports say to date, around 1,000 individuals are still missing as rescuers race to find survivors from the wildfires in Hawaii.

According to Kelly, Green further stated that at least 14,000 individuals have already evacuated the island of Maui due to the wildfires in Hawaii. In addition, another 14,500 are expected to abandon the island by the end of today, August 11. On the other hand, around 11,000 individuals still suffer from power outages due to the wildfires in Hawaii.

Hurricane and Wildfires in Hawaii

According to Mooney, Green also stated that 80% of Lahaina, a popular town on the west coast of the island, is already consumed by the wildfires in Hawaii. Thousands of buildings, with some built in the 1700s, have been destroyed as a hurricane also made the flames spread across the island. Unfortunately, to date, none of the three main wildfires in Hawaii have been extinguished yet.
