Property Tax Increase of 100% Announced In City of Thomasville, Georgia

The City of Thomasville in Georgia announced a tentative millage rate which requires a property tax increase of 100%. Reports say a public hearing about the increase will be held in the Council Chambers on August 9 at 6:00 p.m.

The Council of the city of Thomasville in Georgia announced that they have tentatively approved a millage rate that will require a property tax increase of 100%. This suggests that the property tax increase will result in a millage rate of 5.000 mills which is an addition of 5 mills.

According to Owens, without the tentative property tax increase, the millage rate will not be more than 0 mills. Further reports say the property tax increase for a homestead with a fair market value of $150,000 is around $290, while the property tax increase for a non-homestead with a fair market value of $150,000 is around $300.

Public Hearing on Property Tax Increase

An article in Lanier County News states that all residents of the city of Thomasville are invited to the public hearing about the property tax increase to be held at the Council Chambers on August 9 at 6:00 p.m. Reportedly, the Council Chambers is located at the Thomasville Municipal Building at 144 East Jackson Street. In addition, two more public hearings about this property tax increase will also be held at the Council Chambers on August 23 and September 6 at 6:00 p.m.
