Robert Crimo Jr., the father of the Highland Park shooting suspect, Robert Crimo III, was accused of helping his son obtain a gun license that was used on July 4, 2022. However, on February 16, a day after being indicted, Crimo Jr. pleaded not guilty to seven counts of reckless conduct. Reports say the charges were one for every individual killed during the Highland Park shooting.

In addition, according to Graham, during a hearing in Waukegan on August 7, George Gomez, Crimo Jr.’s lawyer, argued that his client was charged under a law that is unconstitutional. Gomez further stated that the law also does not offer a definition of “cause” which makes it impossible to know what qualifies as criminal conduct.

Nonetheless, Judge George Strickland of Lake County stated that he would issue a ruling at the next hearing on August 28. Reports say if Strickland rejects Gomez’s arguments and does not dismiss the case, the bench trial of the father of the Highland Park shooting suspect would begin on November 6.
