The investigation into the death of migrants last March was connected to the body recently found dead in a river near the Canadian and U.S. borders. Reports say the body belonged to a man who had been missing since March.

On July 28, authorities from Canada stated that a dead body was discovered in the St. Lawrence River near the Canadian and U.S. borders this month. Further reports say the dead body belonged to a man who was connected to the investigation into the death of migrants last March 30 and 31.

An article in Fox News states that the Akwesasne Mohawk Police in Canada announced that the coroner’s office identified the dead body belonged to Casey Oakes, 30. The deceased found in connection with the death of migrants was reportedly a local resident who had disappeared since March.

Investigation into Death of Migrants

An article in Newsdrum states that an investigation of the death of migrants revealed that the boat found near the deceased migrants belonged to the man recently found dead. Further reports say the eight migrants died while attempting to illegally cross into the U.S. through the Akwesasne Mohawk Territory.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Territory extends across the international and provincial boundaries including parts of Ontario, Quebec, and the state of New York. Due to its location, the Akwesasne Mohawk Territory is known for being the crossing point for trafficking people and smuggling contraband.

Following the incident, the bodies of the dead migrants were allegedly recovered from the St. Lawrence River. The dead migrants were reportedly from two families, one from Romania and the other from India.
