The devastating incident began when police received a distress call about a woman who had been stabbed on a sidewalk. The victim was identified as a volunteer who had just finished helping at a nearby church’s food pantry.
She was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention. During their response to the incident, law enforcement officers encountered a Kansas man, John McGriff, who was armed with a knife. They ordered him to drop the weapon, but instead of complying, Kansas man McGriff charged at the officers. In self-defense, the officers opened fire, striking him and neutralizing the threat.
