The Suffolk County Police Commissioner, Rodney Harrison, revealed that investigators are employing ground-penetrating sonar and cadaver dogs at the house to determine if any victims may have been killed there. They have been meticulously searching the property and have taken numerous items as evidence. The search is expected to conclude in the next day or two.
During the investigation, detectives have been carefully digging around the foundation of the house and dismantling a wooden deck that was part of the property. A tent has been erected at the location of the front porch as part of their meticulous search.
Rex Heuermann shared the residence with his wife, Asa Ellerup, and their two adult children. However, Ellerup and the children were away from the house at the time of the killings, according to law enforcement sources. Last week, Ellerup filed for divorce from Rex Heuermann.
Authorities are making sure to thoroughly investigate and clarify that there is no evidence implicating Rex Heuermann’s family in the crimes. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney emphasized in an interview with CBS News that there is no indication that anyone acted with the defendant.
