Stabbing Suspect Wounds Four

According to Yahoo News, the series of events began to unfold around 10:35 a.m. when police received reports of a stabbing at the thrift store. Shortly afterward, another report came in about a second stabbing on a nearby street.

The rampage then continued through the surrounding neighborhood. Investigators currently believe that the victims were chosen entirely at random, as they have not found any connection between the stabbing suspect and those injured.

According to Montgomery County Police Assistant Chief Darren Francke, the victims included three women, two of whom were stabbed in the neck, and a man.

Chief Francke revealed that the stabbing suspect wielded a 12-inch butcher knife, and the terrifying attacks began at a popular thrift store in Silver Spring, Maryland.

All of them are expected to survive, although three required hospitalization for their injuries. The authorities have not yet released the identity of the stabbing suspect.

During a Saturday afternoon press conference at the crime scene, Chief Francke stated, “We have witnesses. We are continuing our interviews, but at this point, it was an unprovoked attack.”

Stabbing Suspect Killed by Police

According to US News, as police quickly established a perimeter in the area, the stabbing suspect sought refuge in a wooded area.

However, the stabbing suspect did not remain hidden for long and soon emerged from the woods, confronting a police cruiser.

Another officer soon arrived at the scene and encountered the armed stabbing suspect. After issuing commands, the officer resorted to using lethal force, fatally shooting the stabbing suspect.

“The officer fired multiple rounds, and the subject was stopped from attacking further people,” Chief Francke revealed. The stabbing suspect met his end at the scene of the confrontation.

The standard procedure under state law mandates that the Maryland Attorney General’s Office investigates police shootings. Consequently, the office will conduct an inquiry and subsequently hand over the results to local prosecutors, who will determine if the officer involved could potentially face criminal charges.

The entire incident was captured on body camera footage, which will likely be released to the public in the coming weeks, along with the identities of the officer and the suspect.

Chief Francke expressed his dismay over the incident, emphasizing that such violence is not typical for the otherwise peaceful suburban area. He said, “Montgomery County is a very safe community… We don’t expect this. We certainly don’t accept it.”
