The Los Angeles real estate developer’s attempt to gain undue advantages through illicit means has resulted in significant penalties.
According to a published article, in 2017, Los Angeles real estate developer Dae Young Lee embarked on a scandalous path by bribing the then-city councilman, José Huizar, and his special assistant.
The bribe was aimed at securing their assistance in resolving a labor organization’s appeal that stood in the way of Lee’s planned downtown development project.
The ambitious project encompassed the construction of over 200 residences and approximately 14,000 square feet of commercial space. As chair of the city’s influential planning and land use management committee, José Huizar held substantial power over development approvals.
Taking advantage of this position, Los Angeles real estate developer Lee made three cash payments totaling $500,000 to Huizar’s assistant, George Esparza, in 2017.
These bribes were aimed at greasing the wheels and ensuring a smooth path for the downtown project.
