South Carolina Father Throws Chicken Feed at School Board Meeting

Fed up with the board’s reluctance to act, South Carolina father Cook resorted to a unique form of protest by tossing bags of chicken feed near the sitting board members.

According to Fox News, his primary concern revolves around sexually explicit books that he believes have no place in school libraries. “I’ve appealed to you all repeatedly, and only a few of you have recognized we do not need to keep sexually explicit books in our schools,” South Carolina father Cook expressed his frustration during the meeting.

Following the “chicken feed” incident, the Beaufort County Board of Education enacted a “no bag” policy to prevent similar disruptions from occurring in the future.

However, the South Carolina father is not satisfied with this response and believes it’s merely an attempt to silence him. He stated that the board might only take further action if he causes another disruption at a future meeting.

South Carolina Father’s Activism

The South Carolina father’s activism traces back to a book review process that received attention from CBS’ “60 Minutes” last month. During this review, seven books were under consideration, and all but one were voted to be returned to circulation for grades 9 through 12.

The book “Ask The Passengers” by A.S. King was the exception and was returned to library shelves without any restrictions.

Out of a total of 97 books initially pulled from shelves for review, committees have approved all but four to return to library circulation, a process that has spanned months and remains ongoing.

The books that the South Carolina father is particularly scrutinizing are those containing transgender content, such as “Gender Queer” by Maia Kobabe. He submitted a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request to the school district, which revealed around 60 or 70 titles related to transgender topics.

The South Carolina father questioned the presence of such books in school libraries and raised concerns about their appropriateness for students.

His journey as an advocate began in 2019 when his son encountered an image of a naked woman on his electronic device at school. This incident spurred Cook to become more actively involved in monitoring and challenging the content available to students.

The South Carolina father Cook has expressed dissatisfaction with the district’s response, stating that they have not presented any evidence supporting the use of explicit materials for educational purposes. Additionally, he claimed that the concerns raised by parents who complained about the 97 titles under review are not being taken seriously by the board.

Despite serving on two book review committees, the South Carolina father Cook felt his voice was not adequately heard. In one instance, he was outvoted four to one, and in another, the decision resulted in a 3-3 tie.

The South Carolina father Cook remains resolute in his quest to ensure that schools provide appropriate reading materials for students and that parents’ concerns are taken seriously.
