The Meridian Police Department has made a significant development in the investigation of a Meridian shooting incident that occurred earlier this week.

According to Detective Chanetta Stevens, a suspect is now in custody in connection with the Meridian shooting that left a mother and her child injured.
The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Jaeshia Avery, is facing two counts of aggravated assault related to the Meridian shooting. According to The Meridian Star, the bond has been set at $250,000 for each count, totaling $500,000.
The Meridian shooting incident took place on Monday night around 9 p.m. near the intersection of 20th Street and State Boulevard. Police received a call reporting the Meridian shooting and were informed that two people had been shot and taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.
Upon arriving at the hospital, officers learned that a mother and her young child were the victims of the Meridian shooting. Both victims were later transferred to Jackson for further medical treatment.
The Meridian Police Department’s criminal investigation division and gang unit have been diligently processing the scene, and the investigation is still ongoing.
