The victim, 11-year-old Deaira Summers, suffered severe second and third-degree acid burns on various parts of her body during an incident that took place at a local playground.
The incident occurred on July 9 after a heated dispute between a member of Deaira Summer’s family and the unidentified 12-year-old Detroit girl.
WDIV-TV reported that the altercation leading to the acid attack of the 12-year-old Detroit girl originated from an argument involving one of Deaira Summer’s cousins.
After the argument, Deaira and her siblings left the playground. When she returned to retrieve a dropped purse, she was subjected to a horrific acid attack by the 12-year-old Detroit girl.
Realizing her skin was burning, and her clothes were melting away, she immediately ran home to wash off the chemical. The severity of her injuries led to her spending four days in a burn unit at a Detroit hospital, according to NBC News.
The identity of the 12-year-old Detroit girl has not been disclosed to the public. However, it has been revealed that the chemical used in the attack came from the young girl’s parents, according to a published article.
