Thursday, the undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney was caught in a traffic stop in Los Angeles and charged with felony weapons.
Devin Haney Was Arrested On Felony Weapons Charges
24 years old, lightweight boxing champion Devin Haney was carrying a concealed weapon in his car and was released on a $35,000 bond, and according online court records show that on August 3 municipal court date was set.
Bill Haney, Devin Haney’s father stated that his son was in the back seat when police conducted a traffic stop.
Bill is also the boxer’s trainer and manager.
FoxNews reported that Devin Haney’s father had called the charge “a misunderstanding that will be solved when Devin goes to court. It’s heartbreaking that he was arrested with his armed even though it has a licensed security bill stated. However, Devin Haney’s father is confident things are going to be worked out soon.
Devin Haney Retained His Title
Devin Haney had maintained his titles and enhanced to 30-0 in May with a unanimous decision over Vasiliy Lomachenko at 135 pounds in Las Vegas Nevada.
Moreover, Devin Haney recently agreed to his next fight, albeit in an unofficial capacity, as two-time champion Teofimo Lopez declared that he was coming out of retirement for a bout with Haney.
In June, the 25-year-old Lopez said he was planning to retire. During his announcement that he was returning to boxing, Lopez questioned some of Haney’s past victories and said he was “tired of helping [him] be something that he is not.”
Devin Haney then responded through his Twitter account stating, “Let’s do it.”
Devin Haney is coming off arguably the most important victory of his career, a decision victory over Vasiliy Lomachenko in May.
