Homeownership Equality Research Organization (HERO)

Homeownership Equality Research Organization has been working together with real estate and mortgage professionals to ensure Black communities have their own homes because a study on generational wealth in underserved and disadvantaged neighborhoods found that 100 percent of the generational wealth in these communities comes from homeownership.

The Homeownership Equality Research Organization website stated that they offer various forms of support such as “downpayment assistance, debt relief, cash reserve improvement, and covering loan fees.

Moreover, these acts aim to combat the systemic biases that historically block disadvantaged black communities from becoming homeowners.

HERO Offers Many Assistance Programs

Homeownership Equality Research Organization has multiple assistance programs that only offer downpayment assistance when credit is often the most prominent hurdle. Hence, the organization is unique in supplying debt-to-income assistance as well. In addition, it also provides credit counseling for free to low-income households.

There are several ways these aids take essence including in assuring interested homebuyers do not receive various credit inquiries which can negatively affect their credit rate.
