The 23-year-old Javon Frazier, an army veteran was killed in Houston on June 18 while walking home from the gym just after 11 p.m. when a black hoodie and shorts began shooting at several men in the area, police say.

Army Veteran Was Shot Near Midtown Area Bus Station

Javon Frazier was hit by gunshots several times at 2121 Main Street just after 11 p.m. on June 18 and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Javon Frazier’s mother told  ABC13 that his son was in the wrong place, at the wrong time. His mother added that Javon Frazier was not even in a gang, he usually goes to church and had been focusing on his health, going to the gym several times a week and eating healthily.

Frazier was honorably discharged after three years in the U.S. Army, Pursuing a college degree at the Houston Community College. Frazier was planning to return home to Virginia this month to complete his degree closer to family e and hoping to get into Rice University.

Since he was not accepted at the University, so he intended to move back to Virginia later this month to attend a school closer to home.

The Suspect Was Not Yet Arrested

The Houston Police Department’s latest update on the case said the shooter hadn’t been arrested and was described as a man last seen in a black hoodie and shorts.

During the shooting on June 18, another man was also shot the same shooting but suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

His mother was struggling to return her son’s body to Virginia for a proper funeral and burial because she has to pay for two funeral homes.

Frazier’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to ask for additional assistance in returning Javon Frazier body’s back to their hope to have a proper funeral and burial.

Police are asking anyone with information that leads to the suspect’s whereabouts are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers of Houston anonymously at 713-222-TIPS.
