Governor J.B. Pritzker announced a bulk signing of more than 150 bills in Illinois. Separately, the governor also announced the signing of House Bill 3882 which authorizes undocumented immigrants to get a standard driver’s license.

According to Bishop, the legislation for the undocumented immigrants was the initiative of the Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias. Reports say the state initially had a Temporary Visitor Driver’s License program for the undocumented immigrants for a decade. This program allowed the undocumented immigrants who meet specific requirements to acquire a license that is marked with “NOT VALID FOR IDENTIFICATION”.

Opposition to the Bill for Undocumented Immigrants
However, according to Hancock, State Senator Chapin Rose declared his opposition to the bill. Rose allegedly questioned the Democrats who meddle with the immigration issues that the U.S. federal government is in control of.
Nonetheless, the bill for the undocumented immigrants passed along partisan lines despite some of the other bills signed not being partisan. One of the several bipartisan bills intend to expand the limitations in pursuing fraud in COVID-19 relief programs that are funded by taxpayers.
