The Asheville Police Department states that a man randomly slashed a dog’s neck at a local park Monday afternoon was fastly arrested and is now facing felony charges.
Man Attacked A Dog Randomly In A Park
Monday afternoon June 26, is when the incident occurred when Asheville police officers responded in a park around 3:20 in the afternoon to investigate a report regarding a dog being stabbed randomly on the neck.
As the Asheville police officers arrived, the dog owner informed the police that while playing pickleball, a man approached her dog, grabbed it by the throat, and started slashing it with a knife unprovoked, the People reported. The dog succumbed to the injuries sustained on the scene.
The dog was a mixed breed named Beignet which is loved by the owners. Beignet has tethered close to the courts in a shady spot under a park tree, something many players do with their dogs.
Liesbeth Mackie’s owner stated that her children and husband, are all devastated by what happened.

James Wesley Henry Was The Suspect Who Attack A Dog In A Park
On Monday, with the assistance of several community members, the suspect was identified as 43 years old James Wesley Henry and was arrested on a felony charge of animal cruelty and is being held at the Buncombe County Detention Facility.
Asheville police also claimed that the suspect was a homeless man.
Henry is being held on a $10,000 bond and it is still unknown if the suspect has immediately entered a plea or retained an attorney.
