A guaranteed income program called the Mother Up pilot is expanding in Washington, DC, providing eligible participants with monthly direct payments, The U.S. Sun reported.
Up To $500 Monthly Direct Payments
The program, run by the Mother’s Outreach Network, launched its initial phase in December 2022 and concluded in April 2023. However, a soft launch of a new phase has begun, initially supporting five mothers who started receiving $500 in monthly direct payments starting in May.
Later this year, additional cohorts will have the opportunity to receive the payments, with the program aiming to expand to 50 participants in total.
The primary objective of the guaranteed income program is to provide families with the necessary support to stay together and prevent their involvement in the welfare system while addressing their genuine needs.
According to Melody Webb, co-founder of the Mother’s Outreach Network, the program aims to support black mothers with children in the welfare system.
To be eligible for the program, individuals must reside in Washington, DC. It is currently unclear whether there are any income requirements to participate in the program.
