Michigan Police Officer was charged with assault after video showed him allegedly punching a young jail inmate during booking in the face and slamming his head to the ground at the jail, authorities said Tuesday.

On June 13 a 19-year-old man was being processed at the jail after being arrested for multiple felonies, a video shows that Michigan Police Officer Rodriguez had some exchanging words with the inmate before the officer punched him in the face and knocked him to the floor and smacked his head on the ground.
AP News reported that William Dwyer, a police commissioner in Warren the one who played the video for reporters said that other officers immediately intervened and also reported the incident to managers.

According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, Matthew Rodriguez 48 years old of Southgate, is currently facing multiple charges of public officer willful negligence of duty, a one-year misdemeanor; and assault and battery, a 93-day misdemeanor connected to the incident.
Moreover, A judge set the bond at $5,000. It wasn’t known if he has an attorney who could comment on the case.
Prosecutor Pete Lucido said that no badge or uniform can protect anyone from accountability.
Rodriguez, a Warren officer for 14 years, was placed on leave. Dwyer praised the officers who reported the attack.
