Duane Owen was executed almost four decades after the murders of a babysitter and a single mother in Florida. Reports say the death row inmate made no final statement before being executed through lethal injection.

In the evening of June 15, Duane Owen, 62, was executed almost four decades after he murdered Karen Slattery, 14, and Georgianna Worden, 38, in Palm Beach County, Florida. The families of the victims were present during the execution of the death row inmate which was carried out through lethal injection.

An article in CNN states that the death row inmate was convicted for the rape and fatal stabbing of Slattery and the murder of Worden in 1984. However, despite decades of appeals, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida signed Owen’s death warrant this year.

Death Row Inmate’s Murders

According to an article in CBS News, Johnson, a deputy sheriff of Monroe County, was 10 years old when her older sister, Karen, was murdered. Reportedly, Slattery was babysitting two children who were sleeping when she was raped and repeatedly stabbed. Two months thereafter, the death row inmate killed Worden with a hammer, while both of her children were sleeping nearby.
