Authorities have arrested a Michigan man following the discovery of an alleged mass shooting plot.
FBI Arrests Michigan Man
The Michigan man, identified as 19-year-old Seann Pietila of Pickford, was apprehended by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Friday, ABC News reported.
The arrest came after the FBI uncovered evidence suggesting that the Michigan man suspect held explicit neo-Nazi and antisemitic ideologies and had been stockpiling weapons in preparation for a mass shooting.
Michigan man Seann Pietila has been charged by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Michigan with transmitting a communication containing a threat to injure another individual.
According to investigators, the Michigan man suspect engaged in online communication via Instagram, where he expressed strong anti-Jewish sentiments, voiced support for neo-Nazi groups, and even idolized previous mass shooters.
These findings were detailed in the criminal complaint filed against Michigan man Pietila.
During a search of the suspect’s residence, law enforcement officials discovered a cache of weapons, including firearms, a Nazi flag, a ghillie suit, gas masks, and military sniper/survival manuals.
The criminal complaint also revealed that a message was found on the Michigan man suspect’s phone in the Notes app, which identified a synagogue in East Lansing, along with a specific date and a list of equipment.
The FBI’s involvement, in this case, was initiated after receiving a report on Tuesday regarding threatening online communications.
Using information provided by Meta, investigators identified the user associated with the threats, who was subsequently confirmed as the suspect, Seann Pietila. The FBI alleges that numerous messages containing antisemitic slurs and praise for neo-Nazi ideology were found in connection with the suspect.
According to the criminal complaint, the suspect expressed admiration for the 2019 Christchurch mass shooting in New Zealand. Interestingly, the date mentioned in the Notes app on Pietila’s phone coincided with the fifth anniversary of that tragic event.
Further examination of the suspect’s social media accounts yielded additional concerning content, including images and posts featuring Nazi imagery and references to other mass shooters.
Items confiscated during the search warrant at the suspect’s residence included magazines, a shotgun, a rifle, a pistol, various knives, and firearms accessories.

Mother of Michigan Man Suspect Defended Him
As of now, information regarding legal representation for Michigan man Seann Pietila is not immediately available.
However, the Michigan man’s mother, Brittany Stob, spoke to ABC News and expressed disbelief at her son’s alleged intentions. Stob maintained that her son is a nonviolent individual and disputed the accusations made by federal prosecutors.
She admitted that Pietila had made inappropriate statements online but insisted that he would never harm anyone.
Brittany Stob also claimed that the firearms and tactical gear seized by the FBI during the search of their home belonged to her and her husband, not her son. Stob revealed that her son began consuming antisemitic content online during the pandemic when he was isolated and lacked access to necessary mental health treatment.
The detention hearing for Michigan man Seann Pietila is scheduled to take place next week, during which further details regarding the case are expected to be presented.
