Suspect in Pentagon Leak, Jack Teixeira, Indicted on Several Counts by Federal Grand Jury

Jack Teixeira was indicted by a federal grand jury for leaking highly classified military documents. Reports say the suspect in the Pentagon leak was a guardsman of the Massachusetts Air National Guard.

Reports say the suspect of the Pentagon leak was identified as Jack Teixeira, 21, of North Dighton, Massachusetts. On April 13, Teixeira, 21, was arrested for leaking highly classified military documents about Russia and Ukraine’s war and other national security issues in a Discord chat room. Along with the issues, the capabilities and geopolitical interests of other countries were also reportedly leaked.

According to Betz, Teixeira was a guardsman of the Massachusetts Air National Guard. FBI Director Christopher Wray stated that those who were granted security clearances were entrusted to secure classified information and protect the U.S.’s secrets. Therefore, the Pentagon leak exhibited a grave violation of those responsibilities.

Charges Faced by Pentagon Leak Suspect

According to Yang, on June 15, Teixeira was indicted by a federal grand jury. Furthermore, the Pentagon leak suspect is facing six counts of willful retention and transmission of national defense information.

On May 19, Magistrate Judge David H. Hennessy of the U.S. District Court also granted the government’s motion to detain Teixeira as he awaits trial. If found guilty, Teixeira will be sentenced to more than a decade in prison and will be fined up to $250,000.
